Strategic and Corporate
Planning
MDI helps its clients in establishing
objectives and choosing the best means for achieving these
objectives before any action is taken. This includes
strategic planning, envisioning the future of an
organization, and then developing the appropriate systems,
processes, and procedures to achieve the desired results.
In our planning, we usually answer these three basic
questions:
Where are you now and where are you going? The importance of
this question is raised by the following quotation by Lewis
Carroll, 1872, in Through The Looking - Glass:
Alice: Which way should I go?
Cat: That depends on where you are going.
Alice: I don’t know where I am going!
Cat: Then it doesn’t matter which way you go!
What is your current situation in relation to the external
environment, your competition, and the threats and
opportunities these pose?
How do you get from where you are to where you want to be?
MDI specific planning services include: 1) reviewing the
current planning processes, systems, procedures, and plans
(strategic, corporate, operational), and making improvement
recommendations; 2) preparing, improving, and clarifying
mission statement, vision, goals, expectations or standards
from top to bottom in the organization; 3) assisting with
needs assessment or the identification of problems; 4)
preparing action plans that include: what will be done, who
will do it, how will it be done, when will it be done, how
much will it cost, how will feedback be used to revise the
planning process, and how will results be measured
(evaluation mechanism); 5) preparing specific, quantifiable
objectives; 6) evaluating the existing system of
prioritization and making improvement recommendations; 7)
ensuring that plans are appropriately related to budgets;
and, 8) training individuals on project management, team
building, and planning methods, tools or techniques; 9)
developing contingency plans; and, 10) deciding how to
allocate scarce resources between different parts of the
organization based upon priorities.
