Organizational Culture Transformation When interviewed, many employees sum up the word
“culture” as: “It’s how we do things around here.”
All organizations have personalities and attitudes,
just like people. The culture of a company is what defines the personality of
the organization, its habits, traditions, values, status
symbols, customary beliefs, perceptions, and resultant
behavioral characteristics.
It constitutes what is expected and accepted with
regard to human performance. The culture of an organization
is greatly influenced by its early founders.
Executives, managers, and supervisors change it over
time for better or worse.
A good and appropriate culture is the key to success
and survival for any company. The responsibility for creating, maintaining,
changing, and monitoring organizational culture lies with
the CEO, Board of Directors, and other senior executives.
Different companies have different cultures, hidden
cultures, and sub-cultures.
In successful organizations, top executives serve as
role models for others to emulate. They mold the culture to
what is appropriate through a mission, vision, expectations,
measures, rewards, and policies.
These are supposed to be communicated and understood
from top to bottom in the organization. It
is not unusual to find that the leaders of a company are
saying one thing, and its people at the middle and bottom of
the organization are saying or doing another.
Changing the culture involves vision, risk,
commitment, and a
lot of patience. MDI helps
