Leadership Training for Change
at Nuclear Stations

MDI provides "LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR CHANGE" services to executives and managers operating commercial nuclear plants. The purpose is to help the owners of nuclear plants maintain operating excellence, continuous improvement and safety margins or to strategically recover from a decline in performance. This includes those operating plants that could be placed on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission "Watch List" or are on that list and want to be removed from this list.

Frequently, our work is with a Company that has undergone unsuccessful downsizing or reengineering initiatives that resulted in a deterioration of the organizational and safety culture and reduced safety margins. Our goal is to help develop, implement, and evaluate the best "get well" program possible, one that effectively guides organizational and safety culture transformation. Our services usually involves one-on-one interaction with the executive or manager through a mentoring arrangement. The first step is to determine the skills and leadership or management style of the individual, and after several interviews, prepare a profile describing the strengths and opportunities for their improvement. The challenge is to change or improve the knowledge and experienced leader’s attitudes, and to help them become more successful, particularly during a turnaround or transition period.

Our work is tailored to the needs of the client Company and individuals. The topics of major concern usually include: mission; values; expectations; standards; management philosophy and style; organizational and safety culture; empowerment; conservative decision making; defense in depth; leadership; change management; ownership of problems; accountability; results-oriented performance measures and tracking systems, particularly for the "soft" management issues related to plans, groups, and individuals; arrogance and complacency; "we" versus "they" attitude between management and staff; regulatory interface; deregulation and competition; policies, procedures; communication; team work; recognition or reward systems; incentives; motivation; delegation; trust; questioning attitude; perceptions; downsizing, and reengineering of work processes.

Our seasoned consultants have held responsible positions in the nuclear industry, regulatory agencies and consulting firms. For more information at no cost or obligation, please contact:
